 FEANOR designed and patented a brand new technology, which allows manufacturing of grooves on rotor shafts with higher efficiency, using just two steps and two profile tools in solid carbide with internal cooling, one for roughing and one for finishing.This solution, tested in various plants in Europe and recently in China and India on new and powerful machines, reduced overall manufacturing time on a standard rotor shaft from 1200 hours to 960 hours, and outdated the existing technology, based on indexable milling cutters or HSS profile cutters without internal cooling. Both previous technologies require, in fact, three further steps in advance, two square and one taper slot before using the profile rougher and finisher in HSS. From the other side (blade base), another special single-pass special cutter with brazed inserts or in HSS allows roughing and finishing of the profile of the blade base at the same time, thus reducing manufacturing time by 50%.
